Here's what the Kitsap Farmland Preservation Coalition does:

We're an informal group of Farmers, Teachers, Conservationists,  Environmental Scientists, Public Officials, and Community Activists who have joined together to figure out Farmland Preservation Solutions here in Kitsap County. We are also working with the county to establish an Agriculture Advisory Committee and hope to seat folks sometime in 2024.

 Our coalition operates through three dedicated committees, each with distinct priorities:

The Proactive Preservation Committee focuses on the preservation of existing farmland, conducting a comprehensive inventory of current farms, developing toolkits and resources for transitioning and new farmers, exploring applicable policies like Transfer of Development Rights (TDR), and building partnerships with entities such as land trusts. The Farmer Education & Outreach Committee is committed to educating and supporting both new and existing farmers and landowners, utilizing resources from the WA Farmland Trust, and creating tools showcasing options for new and transitioning farmers. The Public Outreach & Awareness Committee plays a crucial role in communicating the urgency of farmland preservation, educating the public on the benefits of agriculture, and providing actionable ideas for community members to contribute to the cause.
